Job Posting - Library Co-Director

Overview 

The Lone Cone Library District is seeking a co-director to share the responsibilities for bringing the library vision, mission, and values to life. Running a library is a big job, so we are looking for a team of two who can work collaboratively and share responsibilities.  If you are a community-builder with experience supervising staff, preparing and administering budgets, and have a passion for impacting the lives of people living on Wright’s Mesa, then we are looking for you.

  • Job Type: Part-Time, 26-32 hours per week
  • Compensation Range: $45,000 – $65,000 annually depending on experience
  • Benefits: Health Benefits Option, Paid Leave

Position Summary

The Co-Director will share the position, including the duties and responsibilities outlined within this job description with a second Co-Director and will be responsible for directly supporting and assisting in exercising a variety of responsibilities and functions to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Lone Cone Library. This position co-directs supervision of all library staff. The position will report directly to the Lone Cone Library Board of Trustees.

Job Duties – Include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the liaison between the Board of Trustees and library staff, including communicating priorities to staff and sharing significant staff concerns that may inform governing decisions.
  • Prepares and presents regular reports, budget updates, and recommendations to the library’s Board of Trustees/governing body.
  • Hires and supervises library staff who are representatives of the local community demographics.
  • Manages the library on a daily basis by planning, organizing, and directing building and grounds maintenance, technology, collections, services and programs for all people in the community.
  • A regular and predictable work schedule is required and may include occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Upholds written policies and procedures for the library, including supervision, operations, fiscal matters, and services.
  • Writes and oversees procedures that are aligned with policies and library professional ethics. Regularly reviews and revises policies and procedures, adding new policies when necessary. Ensures staff are trained on all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains written emergency procedures, risk management plans, and other guidance for continuity of library operations.
  • Attends professional development to gain resources, skills and strategies to improve the library. Participates annually in at least one regional, state or other workshops and brings back ideas to implement that benefit library services to the community.
  • Maintains involvement in local organizations, especially those undertaking community priorities that align with the library’s mission.
  • Is a member of one or more library association to support professional development, such as the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL), the Association of Small and Rural Libraries (ARSL), the Public Library Association (PLA) and the American Library Association.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Desired Education and Experience 

  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Management experience working in a library preferred.
  • Ability to work with a Board of Trustees.
  • Experience creating and managing a budget.
  • General knowledge of Colorado Library and Special District Law.
  • Fundraising/Grant writing experience.
  • Networking abilities
  • Efficiency regarding decision making
  • Experience with human resources and staff evaluations.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and organized self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Proficient with technology and social media.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
